Break and enter suspects arrested after attempting to flee from police

West Vancouver – WVPD with assistance from North Vancouver RCMP, have arrested three people who are alleged to have broken into houses and vehicles before attempting to flee from police.

On February 8, at approximately 8:30 am, WVPD received a report of a possible residential break and enter in progress in the 2700 blk. of Highview Pl.

Police flooded the area and discovered that the suspect vehicle, a white pickup truck, had since fled. A license plate was obtained by a witness and the vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen from Surrey, the day before.

At approximately 9:15 am, police received reports from witnesses near Bonnymuir Dr. and Southborough Dr., stating that the occupants of a pickup truck were attempting to break into parked cars.

Police attended the area and located the pickup truck, which is then alleged to have rammed a police vehicle before fleeing at a high rate of speed.

A spike belt was successfully used on Hwy. 1 near Capilano Rd., but the vehicle continued driving Eastbound into North Vancouver. All four tires had been punctured.

Police then received a 9-1-1 call from a citizen who reported seeing a rifle being thrown out of the fleeing truck. Police quickly recovered a loaded shotgun along the shoulder of Hwy 1 between Capilano Rd. and Lonsdale Ave.

North Vancouver RCMP attended the area to assist WVPD and the truck was located driving Southbound on Lonsdale Ave. The truck stopped near Lonsdale Ave. and 12thSt., and two suspects fled on foot.

A woman was quickly located inside a nearby business and taken into custody without further incident.

A man was located in a nearby office building and was also taken into custody without further incident.

Simultaneously, a third suspect was located and apprehended with the assistance of a WVPD Police Service Dog (PSD) in the 500 blk. Of Craigmohr Dr. in West Vancouver. Officers had located a home that appeared to have been broken into, and a PSD was used to assist with a search of the home. A man was found hiding inside and taken into custody.

“This incident involved the coordinated efforts of many police resources which yielded excellent results,” says Insp. John Lo of the West Vancouver Police. “I am proud of the work that our officers do every day to supress crime in this city. We are proud of the working relationship that we have with our policing partners in North Vancouver, and thank them for their assistance with safely taking these suspects into custody.”

The woman was later released without charges due to insufficient evidence at the time.

The two men who were arrested, were held in custody at WVPD cells until February 10, when they appeared in court in North Vancouver.

Criminal charges have been laid against the following people in relation to this incident:

Adam ZINCK – 1x count of Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Offence sec. 348(1)(a) ccc

Alexander EATON – 1x count of Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle sec. 320.13(1) ccc
