Officers have responded to 271 calls for police assistance in West Vancouver since our last Alerts.

An alert resident helped our Patrol officers make a positive start on the New Year. At just 41 minutes past midnight January 1st, officers were called to the 1800 block of Duchess Avenue.

A homeowner, alerted by an alarm, reported a male breaking into their garage. Upon arrival of officers to the area, the homeowner relayed an update that a male had just been seen leaving the garage.

Officers quickly found & arrested a suspect. Suspected stolen property was recovered. A 27-year-old Vancouver man now faces charges and remains in custody pending a further court appearance in February.

Properly functioning alarms, and alert residents relaying timely information from a safe place can be invaluable to officers.

Other files in this week’s Crime Alerts also highlight the need to consider security of garages, or storage areas. Any place where you keep items of value can become a target for criminals. Bicycles, motorcycles, & ski equipment are among valuable items lost by owners in garage or storage area break-ins since our last report.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Our Patrol Teams are available 24-7 if you need immediate police assistance.

Call 9-1-1 for an emergency. Call 604-925-7300 for a non-emergency response or make an Online Report at WestVanPolice.ca.
