Residential B&E
We are very grateful that serious injury was avoided in a frightening encounter between a family & a burglary suspect. Residents of a Cedardale home discovered a suspect in their kitchen during early morning hours. Importantly, an immediate call to 911 was made. Officers were at scene in minutes to assist the homeowner who had gained control of the suspect. A 52-year-old Vancouver man was arrested. WVPD Victim Services is working to support the residents. As specific details of this matter are before the courts, we will review general break-in prevention measures separately in a later update. An investigation by our patrol team is ongoing.
Thefts from Auto
Your vehicle, locked or unlocked, should not be considered a four-wheeled safe for storage of valuables. That difficult lesson visited upon more residents over the past week. Tools were stolen from a vehicle in the Horseshoe Bay area after a rear window was smashed. Unlocked or unsecured vehicles in the Ambleside & Taylor Way/Marine Drive area provided an easier path to cash, clothing bank & ID cards in separate reports. We urge you to make a practice of taking any valuables with you, whenever you leave a vehicle unattended.
Thank you for being alert to suspicious activity in your neighbourhood. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Call 604-925-7300 for a non-emergency response.
