Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,
West Vancouver Police have responded to 695 calls for service since our last update.

A big Calls-for-Service number in our Crime Alerts & Update this week, due primarily to covering two weeks since our last report. Of note, as of earlier this week, officers have responded to over 10,000 calls for police service in West Vancouver so far in 2023. Unfortunately, there are some familiar prevention concerns to refresh for your home & property safety.
Break & Enter
Summer and the season of open windows for ventilation continues. Please ensure any entry point to your home being left unattended is secure, even if it is only for a short time. A kitchen window left open while homeowners were away during daytime hours left an easy path into a Cedardale area home. The screen was removed for the suspect’s entry. Personal electronics & accessories were stolen.
If you are going to be away, please ensure any security or alarm systems are working properly & set before you go. A caretaker checking on a vacant home in the Chartwell Drive area this week arrived to discover a break-in had occurred. Home electronics & furniture were stolen.
And a garage door opener in an unsecured vehicle parked in a driveway helped a suspect break into the nearby garage and rummage through a 2nd unlocked vehicle north of Horseshoe Bay. Fortunately, nothing was stolen. No entry was made beyond the garage. Don’t give thieves an easy way into your home. Don’t leave any keys, door fobs or openers in any unattended vehicle.
Thefts
A Theft from Auto reported in progress in the Ambleside area this week, coupled with a quick response by Patrol Team members ended with a suspect in custody.
Unfortunately, there are several other theft reports in our alerts, involving valuables left in vehicles where windows were smashed to gain access, and several in which valuables were left in unlocked vehicles. It can take just seconds for a suspect to break through a vehicle window. Avoid leaving valuables in unattended vehicles, especially if the items are readily visible to a suspect walking past.
