Coordinator's Update - July 06
Good Day Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants,
West Vancouver Police have responded to 406 calls for service since our last update.
Youth Violence
If you have not yet done so, please review a media release this week by West Vancouver Police Communications Officer Cst. Nicole Braithwaite regarding a concerning increase in incidents of youth violence in our community.
Please Click Here To View Our Media Release At WestVanPolice.ca
If you see activity of concern, please don’t hesitate to call West Vancouver Police. Call 604-925-7300 for non-emergency matters. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency, including events that involve an immediate threat to a person or property or to report a substantive crime in progress.
Break-ins
Again, just one Break-in reported this past week, on a residential construction site in the Westhill area. Thieves were able to easily pass through unsecured site fencing, then stole numerous handheld tools & other construction supplies. If you are planning or undertaking a construction plan or major renovation, please have a proactive discussion with contractors or site managers regarding security, especially for periods prior to the structure being closed-in & secured with security cameras or alarms re-installed.
Thefts
A difficult week for theft reports, two vehicles stolen, one with keys believed to have been inadvertently left inside, along with five reported bicycle thefts, & four thefts from auto. Happily, one Caulfeild area resident noted a theft from auto in progress through their home surveillance system. and was able to provide details of the suspect, including vehicle identifiers. The suspect was subsequently identified & detained by officers checking the vehicle for an unrelated matter in Vancouver.
