Hello From Your New Block Watch Coordinator!
Greetings Block Watch Captains, Co-Captains & Participants!
Our latest Crime Alerts are now posted. Click Here For Oct 14 - 20 Crime Alerts
Of note since our last Alerts are a pair of Residential Break & Enters (B&E) and a suspected B&E attempt.
Officers have responded to residential break-in reports in neighbourhoods both above & below the highway. A family on Farmleigh Rd. returned after several days away to find suspects had climbed to their 2nd floor balcony, smashed through a window, then stole jewelry, clothing & other personal items. Residents of a home in the 1600 block of Palmerston Avenue returned after just a few hours away October 16th, to find suspects had entered through an unlocked sliding door.
Meantime, late evening on October 15th, intruders climbed a gated fence on Holmbury Place but fled after triggering motion sensors & seeing the home was occupied. Investigations are ongoing.
We strongly encourage you to regularly review home security provisions. Ensure all entry points are locked & secure with any alarm system you have properly maintained and set even if you’re only away for a short time. Be aware thieves will target upper floor balconies & windows in the hope alarm sensors are not installed there. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
As new Block Watch Coordinator, I look forward to working together with you toward our shared goal of a safer community for all. While retired as a police officer after nearly two decades service in West Vancouver & eagerly awaiting expected arrival of a first grandchild in a matter of weeks, my personal plan is to remain actively employed until my wonderful partner Sarah retires from teaching.
I’m excited for a new challenge & opportunity in a community I’ve been very proud to serve in. I was personally sad to learn Alejandra & family were heading east, but sincerely excited for their new adventures together.
I am following in the very capable footsteps of Alejandra Johnson & our excellent, long time Block Watch Coordinator Anne Russell. I am sincerely grateful for the outstanding work of both building active Block Watch groups throughout West Vancouver. We have more work to do, bringing more and more neighbourhoods into the Block Watch family.
